Handling Criticism

One thing I learned almost immediately after transitioning from a part-time intern to a full-time pastor is that someone will always have something negative to say about something you're doing (whether constructive or destructive). As an intern I generally only received negative criticism when I did something legitimately wrong. However, as the leader I started to receive a wide variety of criticism.

I've had to learn very quickly how to process criticism more effectively.

I found the following three blogs by Keith Ferguson very helpful in learning to process criticism.

  1. Handling Criticism Part I - How do I respond when I get personal criticism?

  2. Handling Criticism Part II - How do I process criticism directed at someone else?

  3. Handling Criticism Part III - How do I respond to general/generic criticism?
