Hope

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give, you hope and a future.

These words weren't uttered to Judah during a prosperous time.

  • The Babylonians are about to take over
  • The will be kidnapped from their land
  • Their civilization is about to be burned to the ground

God's promise to his people wasn't that their lives would be easy, free from heartache, and prosperous in the worldly sense. At the same time, the passage says that God has a plan for them and it's to proser them, not to harm them. To understand what God is doing here, we need a radical shift in perspective.

Perhaps..

...the setbacks you're facing
...the criticism you're taking
...the relationships you're losing
...the "failures" you're experiencing

...ARE God prospering you, but you're missing it because you're still defining prosper based off of the world's definition.

What if all the pain you've faced was part of God's plan to make you who he knew you could be?
