Notes from #TheNines

I watched as much of the TheNines as I could today. If you don't know what it is, it's an online conference where each speaker was only given 9 minutes to communicate the one thing they believe church leaders need to hear.  Here are some highlights from the videos I saw.

Troy Gramling

Who do you listen to?

  1. People that love you
  2. People who are wiser than you
  3. People who believe in your vision

Mark from Granger Church

Why Do People Join and Leave a Team?
  1. You
  2. Your Vision,  Mission, and Values
  3. Your Team

Dave Ferguson

How to Develop an Apprenticeship Process

  1. I Do, You Watch
  2. I Do, You Help
  3. You Do, I Help
  4. You Do, I Watch
  5. You Do, Someone Else Watches
Scott Hodge The Orchard

  • “Give God the Best Part of Your Day” -
  • “Am I giving the most important part of my day to God”
  • “Do I care more about God or about attendance, complaints, and popularity”

Perry Nobles

“A movement of God can not be planned, but it must be prepared for.”

  • We can’t duplicate what God is doing elsewhere
  • We can’t duplicate what God has done at our church
  • But we can prepare for it

Do you have the right people doing the right things at the right times?

 Steven Furtick

God uses dry spells to take you to new levels.

Larry Osborne

The church today is messed up…much like the early church. It’s not honest to lift up the heroic parts of their testimony without acknowledging their weaknesses.

  • They sold and gave away all of their possessions because they thought Jesus was going to return in a few weeks…and Paul was taking up an offering for all the pour saints just a few chapters later
  • We ignore their racism towards the gentiles
  • We ignore the many holy huddles
  •  We ignore the unflattering words of the first chapters of Revelation
