Viral Website Spread In an Unexpected Way
For Easter Sunday we started a questions series. To help promote the series, we started a viral website where people could submit their questions. We hadn't received very many questions during the first two weeks the site was up (by that I mean we'd received 8).
Then I checked the website Saturday night and there were a bunch of new questions. So I copied the new questions into a word document, and it was 68 pages of questions. In total we'd received 591 questions (some of them multiple paragraphs) in the previous 2 days.
As it turns out, a local atheist found out about the website, and posted the link on an atheism website. So the questions we received were a mix of great, angry, and inflammatory questions. On the message board some people were talking about showing up Easter Sunday to heckle the pastor. I'm not sure if it would be awesome or awful if that happened.
I guess I should have known that a viral website could go in an unpredictable direction. That is definitely what it did.
