These are my notes from David Platt's workshop session at The Gospel Coalition 2013 Conference.

I want to be apart of making disciples and multiplying churches in such a way that only God can get the glory.

LET'S CALL PEOPLE TO TOTAL ABANDONMENT FOR THE GLORY OF GOD

Let left everything behind by following Christ

They must abandon themselves

That's very different from

• ADMIT
• BELIEVE
• CHOOSE

So don't buy it. Don't sell it.

Do not teach: Pray a prayer and keep your life.    

LET'S CALL PEOPLE TO LEAVE EVERYTHING AND CHERISH CHRIST

• Let's call them to abandon everything for Christ
• Then tell them that Christ is worth it.

LETS CALL PEOPLE TO A HUMBLE DEPENDENCE ON CHRIST

How do we compel people to abandon all for Christ?

We overwhelm them with the majesty of Christ and cry out for his mercy. In that context mercy just makes sense

LETS CALL PEOPLE TO URGENT OBEDIENCE TO THE MISSION OF CHRIST

Mercy from Christ leads to mission for Christ.

The church is filled with people who have been Christians for years with never leading anyone to Christ.

We are constantly drawn to do all kinds of things besides what Jesus called these men to do.

LET'S CALL PEOPLE TO CONFIDENT TRUST IN AUTHORITY OF CHRIST

We know people from every tribe and tongue will be there in Revelation.  Therefoer we can go anywhere with confidence.

LET'S SEND OUT ORDINARY DISCIPLES IN THE CHURCH TO DO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS IN THE KINGDOM

ACTS 8:1-4

Everyone scattered except the Apostles.

Those who were scattered continued preaching the Word.

ACTS 11 Starting in Verse 19

The scatter leads to the planting of Antioch.

Antioch becomes the leading sending church in the book of Acts

This church was started by just some guys.  We totally miss that this church was started by NOBODIES.  Those NOBODIES CHANGED THE WORLD.

LET'S EMBRACE SUFFERING AS GOD ORDAINED MEANS FOR THE GOSPEL

Martyrdom in the church led to multiplication.

The gospel doesn't spread in spite of suffering, but because of suffering.  Paul's efforts to squash the church led to the start of the church which eventually sent him out.

Satan's effort's to stop the church only spread the church.

LET'S PENETRATE LOSTNESS THROUGH EXTERNALLY FOCUSEED INTENTIONALLY FAITHFUL PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL

PENETRATE LOSTNESS

We need to acknowledge that an overwhelming amount of church growth comes from transfer growth.

We often we are not penetrating lostness

EXTERNALLY FOCUSED

We don't need to create safe environments to bring people to

We need to go to dangerous places to spread the gospel

INTENTIONALLY FAITHFUL PROCLAMATION

We are never called to plant churches.

LET'S GO AGGRESSIVELY AFTER SPIRTUAL NEED IN THE WORLD WHILE WE GIVE SACRIFICALLY TO PHYSICAL NEED IN THE WORLD

Send help for physical need but never end there.

LET'S LOVE THE GLORY OF GOD MORE THAN WE LOVE OUR OWN LIVES

ACTS 13-1-3

LET'S FAST AND PRAY IN DESPERATE DEPENDENCE ON THE HOLY SPIRIT

Who do we think we are?

How ludicrous is our idea to go into the liberal parts of culture and call them sinners doomed to Hell and tell them they can have hope because  a Jewish carpenter 2000 years ago died for their sins and they must surrender their lives to him.  That is a tough sell.   

We need the Holy Spirit.

Let's not fool ourselves into thinking we can come up with a good enough package to sell that message.  We need the Holy Spirit.

LET'S LEAVE A LEGACY OF DISCIPLES MADE AND CHURCHES MULTIPLIED AROUND THE WORLD FOR THE FAME OF THE LORD
