Student Ministry: Keep Things Interesting With Theme Nights

This isn't an original idea.  Nor is it an idea we've perfected. It's just an idea to keep things interesting.

Right now, our primary high school worship service is on Sunday nights. This means we regularly have a good number of visitors.  Our student ministry has had great success creating excitement with THEME nights. Depending on the theme we either/both have students dress up like a theme, decorate the room to match the theme, and/or have activities which match the theme.

Even if you don't meet Sunday evenings, you can always fun nights.

THEME IDEAS:

80's

We did an 80's night and everyone dressed as absurdly 80's as they could. The worship was done with synths (we rented a Moog synth) and electronic drums. We did live band karaoke where they would sing with the band. We had a photo booth where they could get there photo taken. We had a mirror ball. As soon as people walked in the door they were in an exciting environment.

OTHER THEMES
  • Halloween
  • Nerd Night
  • Hero Night
  • Video Game Night

PHOTO BOOTH:

We usually set up a photo booth. This is as simple as hanging a dark sheet on a wall, and wrapping Christmas tree lights around.

This is both fun in the moment, creates an on-going memory, and it's something which can be shared on social media.
