As a pastor I've been asked to countless things I have absolutely no training on how to do. Here's a short list of some of those things.
Bible College didn't train me in how to...
- Run Sound
- Setup a Sound System
- Purchase a Sound System Wisely
- Edit Videos
- Edit in HTML
- Use multiple different content management systems for websites
- Create Interesting Graphics
- Work With Photoshop
- Work With Premiere
- Work With Illustrator
- Use Facebook for Churches
- Use Twitter for Churches
- Officiate a Wedding
- Officiate a Funeral
- Plan a Retreat
- Promote a Retreat
- Recruit Volunteers
- Train Volunteers
- Blackout Windows w/No Budget
- Paint Walls
- Repair Chairs
- Properly Light a Stage
- Troubleshoot a Macbook
- Fix a Projector
- Build a Stage
- Repair Garage Doors
- Decorate a Stage
- Create a Budget
- Create a Ministry Plan
- Run Power Point
- Run MediaShout
- Run EasyWorship
- Run ProPresenter
- Start a Benevolence Ministry
- Build Relationships With the City
- Build Relationships With Local Schools
- Build Relationships With Other Churches
There is a never ending list of things which pastors and ministers are asked to do weekly (well...daily) which no Bible college or seminary trains them how to do. Of course, that's true of any job, but think about all the jobs pastors often have to fill.
