My Dog is More Famous Than I Am

A couple of years back, my wife snapped a picture of one of our dogs sitting on an electrical cord.  She frequently sits very unlike a dog, and more like a human.  Then, we looked at the picture and realized that, not only had the flash had reflected off her eyes, but it looked like she was plugged in to the wall; and suddenly the picture transitioned from amusing to amazing.

My wife then submitted the picture to a local photo contest, and it won.  The prize was a $50 voucher toward veterinary care.

Since then, I haven't given it much thought.

Last night, I received a message from a friend whose sister-in-law reposted this picture.  She thought she recognized the picture, and was wondering if it was my dog.  Which, clearly, it is.

The picture had already been shared 700 times (now over 900), and liked over 1,000 times (now over 2,000)!  At the time, the picture had only been up for 5 hours. My dog is an internet sensation!!!
But, given that this picture is two years old, I suspected that this wasn't the end of the story.

Fascinated by the entire situation, I decided to share the photo myself to see if anyone else had spotted my dog on the internet.  Within just a few minutes, four people had posted that they'd seen the picture before. She seems to have been particularly popular on Reddit.

One of these individuals who knows how to use the GOOGLE better than me did a little research, and he discovered at least 90 Google documented unique postings of the picture under "Electric Dog."

There's no real way to know how Sadie became super famous, but there appear to be two options:

  • Someone from the photo contest reposted it
  • One of my interns shared it on Reddit back in the day

Either way, her fame has exceeded mine.  I suspect my best bet for monetizing her fame would be to hire a lawyer and sue everyone who has reposted my property.  I could make like $2 off of this after lawyer fees.

Here's my attempt to recreate the picture last night.  This time, she held the light in.  I'm trying to figure out how to create my own internet meme using both pictures.  I just need to come up with a good line.
