The previous two entries have focused on age categories and biblical insights. The next two categories are more practical suggestions.

People Who Are in Love With Your Ministry - Part 3 of 4

You want people who passionately support what you're doing. In the previous two entries I mentioned how you want the young and the wise who "get it." There are two key factors to getting it.

• Do they understand the appeal or message of what you do?
• Do they understand why you do what you do?

People who are in love with your ministry understand the appeal of your ministry. Even if they don't understand why you do what you do, it's easy to explain the why to a supporter. 

If you think about it, this is really pretty obvious. If they don't agree with the vision of the ministry or your methods and they don't understand why you're doing what you're doing, you're destined to be in constant conflict.

You also lose out on a number of benefits if they don't "get it."

Think about it:

• They’ll be willing to sacrifice for the ministry. 
• They’ll recruit people. 
• They’ll tell people about what you’re doing. 
• Most importantly, their excitement will spread to and draw people to the ministry

Back in March my ministry started a new high school worship gathering. I was looking to have a program which transcended the size of our group. Conceptually it was ambitious, and our church still meets in a school. So anything we attempted to do would have to be setup and torn down each week. 

If no one stepped up to volunteer, the ministry easily could have been a terrible flop. But that was never a problem because I had a large group of students willing to serve in any capacity. Most of these students I've been working with for 5 years, and I've built good reputation with them. Therefore, they were excited about the ministry from the beginning, were willing to serve sacrificially, and they invited friends.  As a result of their effort, the ministry has experienced remarkable growth in a very short period of time.
